GST Registration does not have a pan-India eligibility. It is only applicable to eligible businesses as per turnover limits prescribed under Section 22 of the Central GST Act, 2017. However, Section 24 makes it mandatory for certain businesses to obtain GST registration irrespective of turnover.

How to Register for GST in India? – GST Registration Steps

Step–1: Documentation

GST registration is an application-based process. Basic details such as entity type, PAN, business name, and state/UT are submitted on the GST portal for registration.

Step–3: OTP-based Verification

GST Registration is PAN-based. OTP verification is done using the mobile number and email linked with PAN to authenticate the applicant.

Step–4: TRN Generation

As soon as the PAN is entered, an OTP is sent to the linked mobile number and email address. After successful OTP verification, a Temporary Reference Number (TRN) is generated. The TRN is valid for 15 days and can be used to complete the GST application.

Step–5: Complete the GST Application Form

Login to the GST portal using the TRN and access the GST REG-01 application form. Fill in business details, promoter/partner information, business location, goods/services, and authorised signatory details. Verify the application using DSC or EVC.

Step–6: Issuance of GSTIN

After submission, the application is processed within approximately 10–15 days. Upon successful verification, the department issues a unique GSTIN to the applicant, which can be used for GST compliance and status tracking.
